Ramadan 2026 | 1447 at Bashir Ahmed Masjid
Tuesday, 17 February 2026
Asalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
Start of Ramadan
Our Hijri calendar is based on local moon sightings, which is an authentic practice based on the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), where each region relies on its own moon sighting.
In accordance with this, it is 28 Shaʿbān 1447 today in the UK. Therefore, at our Masjid, Ramadan will begin on either Thursday, 19 February 2026 or Friday, 20 February 2026, depending on the sighting of the moon.
A confirmation announcement will be made around an hour after Maghrib tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 February 2026 In-Shaa-Allah.
Tarawih Prayers (20 Rakaʿahs – Whole Qur’an)
Tarawih prayers will commence either on Wednesday night or on Thursday night, as above, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Brothers will be in the prayer hall upstairs for all prayers throughout Ramadan, including Tarawih, while sisters will be in the prayer hall downstairs.
The only exception to this is the Jumu’ah (Friday afternoon) prayers, when both prayer halls will be used by brothers and the hall next door used by sisters.
Tarawih Parking
We’re pleased to say we have again negotiated the use of the Waitrose car park from 7:45pm each day during the month of Ramadan. The car park gates will remain open until midnight each day, after which they will be closed.
If you are driving to the Masjid for Tarawih prayers, please do not park in nearby residential spaces – instead use the Waitrose car park, which is just a short 1-minute walk from the Masjid.
Iftar (Opening of the Fast)
Iftar will be provided for brothers each day in the hall next door In-Shaa-Allah. Iftar will be served in a single sitting with Maghrib Jama’ah delayed by 12 minutes to allow brothers to finish their food and then join the prayer.
Daily Activities
There will be short talks and reminders held after Fajr, Asr and Tarawih each day. All brothers and sisters are welcome.
Iʿtikāf
If you are interested in sitting Iʿtikāf this year, please speak to one of the Imams or email us at bashirahmedmasjid@mail.com.
Charity Collections
There will be charity collections every Friday for humanitarian causes, including Gaza, Sudan and Syria. You will be able to donate your Zakah and Sadaqah to these collections.
